SUMMER

orthogonal dash

DESCRIPTION

Ceremonially opening the Hallympic year, the Summer exhibition event shakes up the lazy summer session with an “athletic” competition. While the victors receive Hallympic Champion status (and t-shirts), the event does not count towards the overall Hallympic standings.

The challenge is to stay within the bounds of strict orthogonal orthodoxy for the greatest length possible while reduced to a state of dizzy inebriation by the improper use of a T-square. After the preliminary round, the contestants holding the top three men’s and women’s performances will advance to a championship round.

RULES

  1. Contestants must spin 15 times while keeping their foreheads attached to the end of a T-square held against the ground.
  2. Contestants will then attempt to run as far as possible while remaining within the bounds of the four foot wide lane of orthogonal orthodoxy.

FALL

event to be determined

DESCRIPTION

The fall event kicks off the official Hallympic competition. Men’s and women’s champions will be honored and the first points will be garnered in the contest to determine the top department within the School of Architecture & Allied Arts.

WINTER

the lawrence mile

DESCRIPTION

The marquee event of the Hallympic schedule, the Lawrence Mile is a one mile foot race that loops eight and a half mayhem-filled laps around the labyrinthine ground floor of Lawrence Hall. The contest requires stamina, sharp elbows, and lungs strong enough to overcome Lawrence’s less than perfect indoor air quality.

RULES

  1. Be safe and courteous—reckless behavior is grounds for disqualification
  2. Use of wheeled (or other) vehicles will result in disqualification

SPRING

drafting chair[iot] race

DESCRIPTION

In the final event of each year’s Hallympic Games, contestants must use skill and strategy to propel their chairs over a grueling thirty foot course. The race takes place at the Lawrence Hall Hippodrome—located by the Hearth on the second floor—and is organized into heats of four or fewer competitors. The top four times in both the men’s and women’s divisions advance to the division finals.

RULES

  1. Contestants must remain seated during the race
  2. Contestants may only propel themselves by shifting their body weight or by pushing off on their competitors
  3. Contestants using the floor or walls to propel themselves will be disqualified
